This is a watercolor that I created for a series at our church. The key word was The Body, and they had different artists do different takes on those words as a scriptural theme. The original is approximately 21"x36" in watercolor and ink on heavy cold press Arches paper. Originally the background was blue, but I didn't feel it was mysterious enough, and I later added a black ink wash to the background. There is a light Art Nouveau influence on the design, and the concept merges Old and New Testament concepts of the Temple and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The tat is an abstraction of the Cherubim over the ark of the covenant... which in this case becomes the heart. The sarong becomes the veil separating the Holy of Holies, from which emerges the Holy Spirit symbolized by the dove. The incense burners also allude to the pillars Boaz and Jachin at the entrance of Solomon's Temple.
